Auxiliary
Mary Alvarado, President
I have been an American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) member for nine year to which I have served as
Secretary, Vice President and past President. I am currently into my fourth term as President and
Chairman for Trophies and Awards for our 17th District President.
I moved to Virginia in 1976 from San Antonio, Texas where I used to work for the Texas State Welfare
Department. I worked for BC/BS for 19 years and have been working at my present job for 15 years.
I have two sons, one daughter-in-law and one very handsome little grandson. For nine years,
I have enjoyed volunteering with the Fairfax County Citizens Advisory Committee for Mount Vernon
Police Station.
When I joined the ALA I had no idea what we did. I would hear and read of the things we stood for
but it wasn’t until I started to get involved, attending meetings, and actually doing things that I really
understood just how important we are as an organization.
On November 10, 1919, the Auxiliary was established as an organization sponsoring volunteer
programs on both the national and local levels, serving veterans, soldiers, their families
and their communities. We are truly a unique group of spouses working together with
The American Legion and the SAL so that we can make a difference. If I can be of any assistance
or to answer your questions, e-mail me at auxiliary@valegionpost24.org
